D’oh! Second try…

Monday, May 26th, 2008

The computer ate my homework!  Bummer.  I just wrote a long and witty post to keep you all up to date on my adventures… and then it disappeared!  Even daddy the computer expert couldn’t find it, so I’m going to try again.  I apologize in advance, as I’m sure it won’t be quite as clever as the first time :)

Happy Memorial Day everyone!  Today is the day that daddy gets to stay home from work and play with me!  It’s nice to have a long weekend, and I’m especially liking the nice weather we’ve been having lately.  I like to play in the grass (and eat it), listen to the birds, and to get outside for a change.

For those of you keeping track, the crawling is coming along slowly.  I am not exactly going forward yet, but I’m not going backward as much anymore.  I spend most of my time on my hands and feet (what mommy calls "downward dog") rocking and jumping, trying to move.  Sometimes I can pick up one hand and move it forward, but I haven’t quite got the hang of shifting my weight, so sometimes I just fall down when I try that.  Mommy and daddy say I am getting better and better.  I hope so, because this is hard work and it is getting frustrating!

Last weekend when we had the really hot weather we got to visit Aunt Kathy and Uncle Nick and swim in their pool!  They have their very own pool right in their yard!  We had a nice time splashing around and some of our other friends brought their doggies too, and I always like to visit with doggies.  Then on Sunday we got to celebrate the first birthday of my PEPS friend Clara.  I can’t believe she is one already!  We had a really nice party with banana cake and balloons and presents and everything.  The cake was delicious.  I can’t wait for my birthday :)   Oh and speaking of birthdays… HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDPA STEVE!  His big day is today :)

This past week, mommy took some time off of work because she had been working a lot the past couple of months and had some time saved up.  We had a great week together!  We ran some errands but also took lots of trips to the park to play on the swings :)   We went to swimming class as usual, but this week was life jacket safety week and it was tough!  The babies all wore life jackets which wasn’t so bad, but then we had to "pretend" to fall in the pool and then let the life jacket float us up, and we even went down the slide!  I did great, but I did have to cry a little.  It was a lot of new stuff for one day!  Mommy was really proud of me.  We also went to the opening of the new flamingo exhibit at the zoo.  They are so PINK.  I thought it was pretty neat.  It was also the opening day of the butterfly exhibit, but it was a little too cold for them.  They weren’t flying much.  We’ll have to go back when the weather is warm.

It was nice on Saturday so mommy moved my baby bathtub out to the backyard so I could have my very own pool right at home!  Now that was fun!  I didn’t even have to wear my swim suit!  I just splashed around and played with my toys until I was tired.  I’m looking forward to doing that all summer :)

On Sunday we got to go on a nice little trip to the beach.  We took a hike in the morning (which I slept through for the most part) and then we got to play on the beach in the sand!  I was a big fan of the sand and pebbles, but I guess I tried to eat pebbles one too many times.  Mommy started giving me fig newtons instead :)   Good stuff!  There were also lots of big trains that passed by us.  I wasn’t sure what to make of them at first.  They are so noisy!  But lots of other kids on the beach really liked them, so maybe I will too one day.

Oh yeah!  And a few months ago we went to get our pictures taken by a professional photographer.  This week we finally got the prints and daddy scanned them in for me so I could show you.  Aren’t they nice?

I’m sure there was more I was going to tell you… but I’m not sure what at the moment.  Tomorrow I am headed back to daycare to play with the kids, and of course I’ll have swimming later in the week.  Talk to you again soon!

Busy times!

Hi everyone!

Gosh, though I just wrote about 2 weeks ago, so much has happened!  I have lots to tell you about.  First of all, I now have TWO teeth, and maybe more on the way.  You can see them in this photo.  I’ve been having fun practicing with them when I eat and when I chew on my toys.  I also spend a lot of time feeling them with my finger.  They are so hard!  Mommy and daddy say they are also sharp.  They won’t let me chew on their fingers very much anymore :)   I’ve been teething off and on for a while now and mommy found a great way to help make my gums feel better.  She gives me frozen peas in this nifty feeding bag!  I don’t choke, but I can chew chew chew as much as want.

Spring is finally making an appearance around here, which is just super.  Mommy and I have been taking the tour of local swing sets.  Hurray for baby swings!  I love them!  We have a park at the end of our street with swings, but they closed the playground for a couple of months starting last week while they remodel.  Bummer.  I hope they still have baby swings when it opens up again.  In the meantime mommy has been taking me to another park nearby that also has a wading pool with big cement turtles in it.  The pool is empty now, but soon mommy says we can splash around as much as I want!  Yahoo!  We’ve also been playing in the back yard a bit.  I just love to be outside!

Grandma Valorie’s birthday was a week ago so we went down to her and grandpa’s house for a party.  It was really fun.  They have three doggies and a PIG!  Porky is the pig’s name and daddy took me outside to visit her.  Gotta tell you… that pig made the funniest noise I have ever heard!  Everytime she oinked I just had to laugh and laugh!  Then daddy would laugh and we just had a grand old time.  I also got to play with my second cousins.  You can see Avonleah and Austin in this picture.  They even shared their toys with me!  We also went to an edible plant sale with Uncle Thomas to buy vegetable starts for the garden.  We are going to grow zucchini, tomatoes, basil, carrots… and some other stuff.  Oh and a great big pumpkin!  Mommy got some seeds from work out of a HUGE pumpkin and they are growing.  Daddy says maybe the pumpkins will be big enough for me to go inside!  Yikes!

Last week Grandpa Steve came for a visit from Phoenix, Arizona.  He is so funny!  Grandpa brought me lots of horsey toys and some great summer swim clothes.  We got to play lots, and grandpa even came with mommy and me to swimming class.  He took some nice pictures of us in the pool.  We also got to see Uncle Ryan and Aunt Emily a lot while grandpa was in town, which is always fun.  They love to play with me.  And their big news is that they set their wedding date for September.  Yahoo!  I wonder if I’ll be walking yet…

Yesterday was Mother’s Day so I got to celebrate mommy and my wonderful grandmas :)   I gave mommy a bleeding heart plant that daddy helped me choose, and I made calendars for both of my grandmas with photos of me inside.  Mommy helped me with that.  In the morning grandma Deane came over for breakfast and then we took her to the zoo!  It was raining a little at first, but then it turned into a nice day.  We saw lots of fun animals and the family farm petting zoo was open so we got to see the goats up close!  There are some cool statues of animals throughout the zoo also and I had fun playing on the baboons :)   In the afternoon we went over to auntie Anne’s house to play with grandma Valorie and grandpa Bob… and to check out the cat!  I got him by the tail at one point :)   We had dinner there and then came home for bed.  What a big day!  I was really pooped.

This morning I had my 9-month doctor’s appointment (I turned 9 months on Saturday) and I had to get some shots.  Ouch!  They were out of them last time so I had to catch up today.  Shots make me grumpy.  But my doctor is really nice and she says I am doing just great.  I weighed 17 lbs 1oz, which is still the 5th percentile, but that’s just fine.  I don’t have to go back again until I am one.  ONE!  Can you imagine!  It is just 3 months away.

Phew!  I guess that’s about it for now.  Be sure to check out my photo gallery.  At the risk of sounding self-centered… there are lots of great pictures of me this time!  Talk to you again soon!
