I heart bananas

How quickly time flies when you’re having fun…it has been a few weeks since I last blogged, and what an exciting couple of weeks they have been!  Alessia’s mommy and daddy needed some help watching her on one of mommy’s days off of work, so she came over to hang out with us for the day.  I’m one day older than she is, but gosh is she big!  We had a good day, but I think mommy was tired by the end.  Two babies is a lot to handle, but I did my best to make it as easy as possible for her.

On February 10th, I turned 1/2 year old!  Wahoo!  Grandma Deane sent me a cool birthday gift, a book called “Oscar’s Half Birthday”–can you imagine?  It’s a real story book!  We took a long walk in the morning, mommy baked some brownies, and we spent the afternoon with our PEPS friends and celebrated with a “0″ years old candle.  Mommy had to help me blow it out, but I’ve also been practicing blowing my bubbles (and sometimes spitting), so I might be able to handle my 1st year candle by myself.

On Monday, mommy and I went to see the pediatrician.  I weighed in at a hefty 14lbs 4 ozs, and have grown to a respectible length in the 20th percentile!  The doctor gave us the go-ahead to start trying out solid foods, and boy am I glad to eat something new!

We started off with some brown rice cereal mixed with some formula.  At first I didn’t really have the hang of it, and I got to make lots of funny faces at mommy and daddy.  But by day three, I was an old hand at the spoon (with mommy’s help, of course).  My latest culinary adventure has been exploring the wonderful world of mashed bananas in my cereal!  It’s delicious and is my favorite so far…yum!  Apparently avacado is next, but I’m a little skeptical of green.

This week also marked my first Valentine’s Day–what a fun holiday!  I wrote my first Valentine cards to my parents, which I think made them feel good, and mommy and I picked up some flowers and took them to daycare.  Grandma gave me a cool t-shirt to celebrate, and then she came over while mommy and daddy went out to dinner.  Uncle Ryan even came over for a quick visit!  He is always so funny :)   Check out my photo shoot in my Valentine outfit in the gallery!

Today we took a long walk around Green Lake to enjoy the beautiful sunshine, and I even took a nice long nap.  There sure were a lot of babies and dogs out with their parents.   The playground looked like a lot of fun…one of these days I’ll get to play there.  It was good to get a bit of fresh air and a break from the rain.

Next week I’m going swimming, and then I’m going to hang out with Grandma Deane because she has the week off for winter break.  I’ll also have the chance to expand my diet further–I can’t wait!  Until next time, bon appetit!

The swimsuit edition

I finally have some photos to post of mommy and me at swim class!  Grandma Deane had the day off of work a couple weeks ago and came with us to class to take pictures.  She took LOTS!  Check out the gallery for a few good ones.  I got to model my speedo (swim diaper) and my wetsuit.  Pretty sweet, eh?  Mommy and I go once a week to the pool.  I really like it, but it tires me out.  I usually sleep a lot in the afternoon on swim days.

Last week on swim day we woke up to snow on the ground!  Class was cancelled but we went to the pool anyway and splashed around.  Some my friends were there too so mommy and I had some company.

Other than that, the last couple weeks have been pretty low key.  We met with our PEPS group as usual, which is always fun, but otherwise we’ve been keeping a low profile.  I’m coming up on my 6-month birthday next Monday if you can believe it!  I think after I go to my doctor’s appointment and get the go ahead, I get to start eating solid food!  I can’t wait!  Mommy and daddy keep teasing me with an empty spoon and they get me every time.  I’m looking forward to flicking squash at them :)

Today we had a nice brunch with Great Uncle Ron and Great Aunt Carrie at a yummy-smelling restaurant.  I hadn’t seen them since I was really tiny, so that was fun.  Then we went over to Aunt Anne and Uncle Jason’s house to watch the Super Bowl.  They have a REALLY huge TV, so I was pretty mesmerized.  And I got to visit with Grandma Valorie and Grandpa Bob, so that was great.  Eventually I got tuckered out from all the noise and activity so mommy took me home for some quiet time before bed.

That’s all for now.  I’ll keep you posted on the food flicking…
