I’m two…months, that is!

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

It has been a while since I last wrote and lots has been going on.  On October 10th I celebrated my two-month birthday by going to visit Dr. Seru.  But what did I get for a present?  SHOTS!  Ouchy.  Actually mommy and daddy said I did really well, and only cried for a minute.  The good news was that I weighed 9 lbs 2.5 oz, and I am finally on the charts!  I am in the 5th percentile for weight, and 10th percentile for head circumference.  I am still not on yet for height though.  I guess I just have a big brain on a short little body :)   Also at the doctor visit mommy was happy to hear that I don’t have to be on such a strict feeding regime anymore.  I get to breast feed without the bottle every other feeding!  Good times.

Last weekend Grandma Deane invited me over to to play on Friday night so mommy and daddy could have a dinner date.  Mommy and Daddy decided it would be easiest for the three of us to just spend the night at grandma’s.  What fun!  Then on Saturday morning we all took a long walk (I got to ride in the pram) to a pumpkin patch!  I slept for most of it, but those pumpkins sure are fun!  Now I can’t wait for Halloween.

Just to make mommy a bit crazy, I decided that my new simplified feeding schedule was too simple.  I won’t go into the details, but we had another meeting with a lactation consultant last week :)   We now have a new tube to work with at each mealtime.  I’m learning how to feed without all these tools, but for now it seems I still need a little help.

Mommy and daddy were happy to make a change this week from disposable diapers to cloth diaper service.  So far so good I think.  The diapers are comfy, and though I got a new rash on my bum initially, it is gone now.  Less plastic for the garbage; that’s what mommy and daddy say.  I don’t know what that means, but the diapers are fine by me.

We came up with a fun new way to play this week… bathtime with mommy!  Have a look at my pictures and you’ll see how much fun I have when I get to splash around in the tub with mommy.

This weekend Uncle Ryan and Aunt Emily came over and we went out for breakfast on Saturday.  I hadn’t seen them for a couple weeks and they were impressed at how big I am getting.  They just moved to a new house that is close to us, so hopefully we will see them more often.  Then Saturday night mommy and daddy got all dressed up to go out to an auction.  Grandma Deane came over and stayed with me.  We had a great time playing and snoozing.

Today it is rainy and windy and we stayed home all day where it is cozy.  Daddy and I watched football and finally our Seahawks won!  Yahoo!  That’s all for now.

My first overnight trip

The past week and a half has been pretty full of adventures!  To kick it off, Aunt Kathy and Uncle Nick came over and cooked mommy and daddy a great steak dinner, with some excellent wine that they brought back from Argentina.  It was nice to see them, and mommy and daddy were happy to have dinner cooked for them–how lucky we are to have such great friends!

Last weekend, we took a long car ride though the mountains to Cle Elum.  We checked into a hotel room, and then went to Darcy’s wedding.  Darcy is mommy’s friend from work.  I hadn’t ever never been to a wedding before, so it was fun to get dressed up and experience a ceremony like that.  Everyone looked so nice, and the bride and groom seemed really happy together.  I had a great time, and we even got our picture taken as a family!

After the wedding, I decided it was time to mix things up for mommy and daddy, so I started a new feeding schedule (or should I say lack there of?).  Since I was being such a good boy and feeding regularly, I thought that mommy and daddy would appreciate a little change of pace so I stopped wanting to eat much of anything without a fuss.

Because I wasn’t eating very well and had been fussy around meal time, we went to the doctor on Monday.  I weighed in at 8 lbs 10 ounces–more than double how much I weighed when I was born!  The doctor said that based on the pattern of feeding, painful spit-ups, and general fussiness around feeding that I probably have acid reflux.  I’ve been taking a little bit of medicine to help make my tummy feel better around feeding time.  I have my two month check-up doctor next week, and it sounds like there are a lot of shots that I have to get.  I remember getting poked with needles at the hospital and I didn’t like it, so I don’t think the next doctor’s visit will be much fun.  But for the sake of mommy and daddy I will try to be brave.

We went out to dinner with great Uncle Ron and Aunt Carrie, Marta and Keith, and their new baby.  Keith is going to be the new chef at The Herbfarm, and they have a baby that is a few weeks younger than me.  Somehow he is bigger than me though, which I don’t understand.   They were nice, and hopefully I’ll get to spend some time with them again.

On Wednesday, we all went to the PEPS group again.  This time I was much more awake than I’ve been for previous meetings, and I had a chance to hang out with Emanuel and Atticus during a break–it was fun to check them out!

On Friday, daddy’s friend Scott and his girlfriend LaRae came over.  We went out to a local restaurant with lots of other babies and ate dinner, then came back home and hung out for a while.  They seem like nice people, and I hope to hang out with them more again soon.

Oh yeah!  And one other thing.  On Saturday morning I was playing with daddy and all of a sudden I was overtaken by the urge to show him my gums!  I just couldn’t help it.  Daddy was so excited he went to tell mommy.  Apparently that is called SMILING!  I’ll try to keep it up, though so far I haven’t felt the urge again.

Today I went with mommy to pick up some diaper wraps from baby Colin.  Mommy and daddy are thinking about switching to cloth diapers.  As long as my bum stays dry I’m cool with it.  Then we stopped by to visit Grandma Deane and go for a walk.  I was not in a very good mood, but I always love to visit grandma.  Perhaps because of my cranky mood we all were punished; a crow flew over us during the walk and pooped on ALL THREE of us!  Mommy and grandma couldn’t figure out how he managed it, but none the less, crow poop was flying.

That’s all for this week; more adventures to come!
